Woman killed in truck accident in Santa Rosa

Motorists in California and elsewhere must share the road with large commercial vehicles. These massive trucks are much heavier than other vehicles, and when they collide with a smaller passenger car, the results can be disastrous. Sadly, one woman lost her life in a crash caused by a box truck.

Accident details

The crash occurred around 8 a.m. on Aug. 10 on Highway 12 in Santa Rosa. A woman, whose identity and age were not given in the report, was moving slowly in heavy traffic. Reportedly, a box truck driver traveling at an estimated 50-55 mph failed to notice the heavy traffic ahead and struck the back of the woman’s Nissan Versa. The truck then struck several more cars.

The collision caused the Versa to overturn and land on a guardrail. Emergency crews had to extricate the driver, and she was taken to the hospital for treatment of major injuries. She did not survive and was pronounced dead some time afterward. The truck driver reportedly sustained minor injuries, as did several others who were in the other vehicles involved.

Pursuing compensation

As they deal with the loss of their loved one, the surviving family of the decedent are likely considering their options for pursuing recovery of monetary damages. Likewise, those injured in the crash are also probably considering their options as well. As is their right, they may pursue civil actions against the alleged at-fault truck driver, his or her employer, and anyone else who has an ownership interest in the truck. Truck accident claims are notoriously complex, which is why all affected parties will need to work closely with an experienced personal injury attorney in California to increase their chances of obtaining the maximum amount possible.
