Motorcyclist dies after colliding with semi

Many in California and other states ride motorcycles as a means of primary transportation and/or for recreation. While people enjoy the open air and freedom a motorcycle provides, the vehicle’s relatively small size and weight, coupled with the fact that it contains no enclosures or safety barriers for riders, mean that motorcyclists typically suffer serious, even fatal, injuries in a crash. This appears to be exactly what happened to one man in Long Beach who died after colliding with a semi-truck.

Accident details

The accident happened around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 15. A 22-year-old man from Long Beach was riding his motorcycle along the 710 Freeway. For reason unspecified, he collided with a semi-truck on the highway.

Officials declared the motorcyclist deceased at the accident scene. No word was given as to whether the truck driver suffered any injuries. Authorities are continuing to investigate the accident, which caused the 710 Freeway to be shut down for several hours.

Seeking compensation

If authorities determine the truck driver was responsible for the accident that claimed the young man’s life, the victim’s surviving family members may elect to pursue a wrongful death claim against the trucker, his or her employer, and anyone else who has ownership interest in the truck. Only after establishing negligence on the part of the truck driver will the court adjudicate the case and award damages. Those affected should consult with an experienced personal injury attorney in California for assistance.
