California hit-and-run accident: 1 dead, 1 arrested

A woman lost her life in a recent California pedestrian accident. Another woman is believed to have caused the accident and reportedly fled the scene. She was arrested later and now faces charges in connection with the crash.

Crash details

The motor vehicle accident took place at about 1:30 a.m. on a recent Monday. According to authorities, a 23-year-old woman was walking along a roadway in Pomona when a car suddenly struck her. The pedestrian suffered injuries and was taken to a medical center for treatment, where she later died.

Police said a 20-year-old woman was driving the car at the time of the accident and fled the scene after the accident. Authorities arrested her the following day at her home. The charges filed against the woman include an injury-causing hit-and-run accident and vehicular manslaughter. Her bail was set at $80,000.

How an attorney can help

The surviving family members of the woman who died may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the arrested woman, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages sustained due to the crash. If the woman accused of causing the pedestrian crash ends up being convicted on the criminal charges filed against her, proof of the conviction may be presented in a California civil court to establish her liability in the accident. A successfully litigated wrongful death claim might lead to a damage award to cover losses stemming from the crash, including the deceased woman’s hospital bills, her funeral costs and the loss of wages for her surviving dependents.
