Fatal accident on the 710 in Long Beach

As anyone who lives in or around Los Angeles can tell you, morning and evening commutes are not without their fair share of issues. Usually, drivers have to deal with extremely heavy traffic and long commute times, and sometimes, minor accidents only exacerbate the issue. Rarely is one side of the freeway completely shut down, however, but that is exactly what happened the morning of Monday, Sept. 30, when a fatal accident caused authorities to temporarily shut down the southbound lanes of the highway.

Accident details

Although news reports about the accident did not contain many details, authorities did confirm that a crash happened around 5:30 a.m. The report also states that authorities believe one individual was struck by a car, but they did not indicate why the person was on the road in the line of traffic. Apparently, this was the person killed, but officials did not offer any details as to the person’s identity.

Authorities went on to state that they did not believe alcohol or drugs were contributing factors to the fatal accident. The southbound lane’s closure caused massive delays on the freeway for several hours, but authorities re-opened the highway later that morning. Authorities are continuing to investigate the crash.

The victim’s right to justice

Once authorities confirm the identity of the person responsible for the fatal crash, the victims surviving family members can seek justice through a civil suit against the at-fault driver. They will have to establish and prove the driver’s negligence directly led to the accident and their loved one’s fatal injuries, but a successfully navigated case and resulting compensation can help with expenses such as funeral costs, medical bills and other associated damages. To learn more about their options in pursuing a wrongful death claim, the decedents family members will want to work with an experienced personal injury attorney as soon as possible.
