1 dead in California car collision

An individual was killed in a car crash in California after a sport utility vehicle collided with the car he or she was driving. Authorities arrived on the scene of the Sunday morning accident to discover that the driver of the car was dead. The accident took place along Highway 242.

How the motor vehicle accident happened

The recent California accident occurred at about 7:36 a.m. According to police, a car and a sport utility vehicle were traveling along the highway. The two vehicles then crashed into each other.

Police reported that the car driver suffered fatal injuries in the crash. This individual was pronounced dead at the crash scene. Meanwhile, the SUV driver suffered no injuries.

Legal recourse available following the collision

California police may discover through their investigation of the crash that the SUV driver caused the accident due to negligent driving. For instance, the driver may have been driving too quickly for road conditions or driving while distracted. In this situation, the surviving loved ones of the deceased victim may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the SUV driver, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages sustained as a result of the accident.

Liability must be established, based upon a showing of negligence, before a judge will adjudicate the claim for damages. A successfully fought wrongful death claim may lead to a damage award to cover the deceased driver’s funeral costs and the loss of support for any of the individual’s surviving dependents. No amount of money can undo the events leading to the fatal accident, but a monetary damage award may help the deceased car driver’s family members more easily move on from the California accident.
