A man was killed in California after the car he was riding in crashed into an embankment. Another man suffered injuries in the collision. Police suspect drugs might have contributed to the tragic wreck.

Events leading up to the accident

The recent California crash took place shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Interstate 15. According to authorities, a 23-year-old man was driving a car more than 70 mph. He reportedly turned the wheel unsafely, lost control of the car and crashed along the west side of Interstate 15. Law enforcement representatives said the car landed on the southbound shoulder.

A male passenger, said to be 25 years old, was thrown into the back seat due to the impact of the collision. He was pronounced deceased at the crash scene. Meanwhile, the driver was transported to a medical center for the treatment of his moderate injuries. Authorities believe he was drug-impaired at the time of the collision.

How an attorney can help

The surviving family members of the deceased passenger may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the driver, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages sustained as a result of the California crash. If the driver is criminally charged and convicted in connection with the accident, proof of this may be presented in a related civil court proceeding with the goal of establishing liability. A successfully navigated civil claim usually leads to damage awards to cover documented monetary losses stemming from the accident, including burial expenses and the loss of support for his surviving loved ones.
