Two people have recently lost their lives in a tragic car crash on Interstate 80. The accident took place late at night on a recent Wednesday. Often, these types of crashes are due to driver negligence, such as speeding, which is grounds for pursuing legal recourse.
Events leading up to the car crash
The recent California accident took place along the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge at around 11:20 p.m. According to authorities, a car was speeding on the bridge. The car then suddenly rear-ended a semi-truck that was going 15 mph.
The two individuals inside the car passed away as a result of the impact of the crash. Police said the semi-truck possibly slowed down at the time of the crash in response to another collision that took place five minutes earlier. Authorities continued to investigate the cause of the wreck.
How an attorney can help
The surviving family members of the deceased passenger may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the driver of the car, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages sustained in the crash. Once liability has been formally established, based upon appropriate evidence of negligence, documented claims for damages will then be adjudicated. A successful claim often results in a monetary award for funeral costs and other necessary expenses occasioned by the fatal wreck and often includes loss of support for surviving dependents. No amount of money can undo what has already occurred, but a financial damage award may help the passenger’s surviving loved ones move forward from the tragedy.
