Some of the most dangerous times to drive in California are in the early morning hours after midnight. During these times, drivers take to the roads after first drinking at a local bar, for instance, and their intoxication can lead them to cause serious accidents that severely injure or kill other motorists and their passengers. A tragic head-on collision occurred recently in Fresno that sent a driver to the hospital with major injuries.
Accident details
The accident happened sometime around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13. A driver in a Honda Civic was trying to pass through the intersection of Maple and Clinton roads when a Dodge van ran the redlight and collided with the Civic head-on. The Civic caught fire and sustained considerable front-end damage.
The van left the roadway and smashed into a building. The driver of the Dodge was also taken to the hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. Authorities also placed the driver under arrest for suspected DUI.
Seeking compensation
All DUI accidents are entirely preventable, and those who choose to drink and drive need to call a rideshare, taxi or friend to come and pick them up if they are too inebriated to drive. The injured driver of the Civic retains the right to pursue compensation for his injuries from the Dodge driver regardless of any charges or convictions for DUI that may occur. In order to increase his or her chances of getting the best outcome possible, the injured Civic driver will need to work closely with an experienced personal injury attorney in California for assistance.
